Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities - North Powder, OR.

Vivitrol is a med used to prevent drug dependency and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release type of the drug Naltrexone, which is available via injection once a month. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone is adminstered Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be triggered by opioids or alcohol, so when an individual takes a drink of alcohol or tries to get high on opioids they essentially can't get drunk or high.

There are particular precautions that should be be taken before someone begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, a person who with the intent to begin Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for a minimum of 7-10 days. This is including clients who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking drugs such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin addict or a person who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly can be very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for at least a week in order to start Vivitrol.

These medications must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in North Powder that also includes medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk with your doctor or therapist about how pharmacological aids can help you build the drug-free life you want.
