Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - Odell, OR.

One of the outpatient rehabilitation alternatives for individuals in Odell battling with opioid dependence and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Some clinics and doctors are authorized to dispense certain medications to opioid dependent individuals, many of which are opioids themselves and are habit forming. With low enough amounts however, the individual does not experience high feelings and also does not have acute cravings and is not experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first drug administered for this reason, but there are a few more choices currently to choose from.

Methadone is an opiate and is meant to be taken at an out-patient medical center certified to administer the drug, which is taken on a daily basis in liquid or pill form. The cost of the med is about $150 monthly. Buprenorphine is also an opiate based drug, and is a pill often taken one day on, one day off. But different from Methadone which is only be dispensed in highly structured medical centers, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is around three hundred dollars per month for the generic version of the drug. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, that is a med that blocks the effects of opioids. An individual taking this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it harder to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken on a daily basis, and costs about $450 per month. Naltrexone is an additional drug used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned it is an opioid blocker and is not an opiate. A person has the choice to take this medication as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents someone from feeling high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 monthly.
