Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs - Rufus, OR.

There are addiction programs available in or near Rufus that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors which make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate addicted client will ideally not engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications consistently so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't at the same time causing them to feel high. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the main treatment goal is to handle the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do offer a small amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
