Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centers - Sutherlin, OR.

Vivitrol is a med used to prevent drug or alcohol abuse and relapse, and is administered expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended-release version of the medication Naltrexone, that one can get via injection once a month. It isn't habit forming, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual injects Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would normally be triggered by alcohol or opioids, so when someone drinks alcohol or takes opioids they basically cannot get drunk or high.

There are certain precautions that need to be taken before an individual begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, a person who plans to begin Vivitrol must have been off of opioids for at least seven to ten days. This is including clients who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given medications such as Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been on Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly is brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of a week in order to begin taking Vivitrol.

These meds must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in Sutherlin that also includes medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Speak with your therapist or doctor about how pharmacological aids can help you build the drug and alcohol free life you want.
