Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers - Yachats, OR.

Vivitrol is a med mainly administered to prevent drug dependency and relapse, and is administered expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release type of the drug Naltrexone, that is available via injection once a month. It isn't addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone injects Vivitrol, it blocks the receptors that would normally be triggered by opioids or alcohol, so when someone drinks alcohol or takes opioids they basically can't get drunk or high.

There are certain safety measures that need to be taken before someone begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, a client who with the intent to begin Vivitrol needs to have abstained from opioids for a minimum of seven to ten days. This is including individuals who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given medications such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin abuser or someone who has been taking Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for a minimum of 7 days in order to start Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of a treatment program in Yachats that also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk to your therapist or Dr. in regards to how pharmacological tools can help you maintain and build the sober life you want.
