The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retirees of the military who are 60 or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, in addition to any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can choose a primary doctor and get referrals to health care services that offer specialty care.
By way of TRICARE, military members can receive substance abuse rehabilitation services in Cranberry Township. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other rehab services. They will need pre-authorization for services and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but stays for detox are restricted to no more than 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved treatment center, and there are time restrictions as to how long military insurance carriers are permitted to stay in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is typically accepted. In additional to this, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which occur on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has completed prior treatment services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
