The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Drug prescribed are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in Ford City are programs that are officially allowed to give out the medications used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medicine like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation center can receive initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of certification that was given.
