The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. One of its obligations is the supervision of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent individuals.
