The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to promote the mental health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid treatment facilities, which are programs which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine given are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted people. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment programs in Southeastern are programs that are officially permitted to distribute the medicines used in MAT as long as they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements.
