The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to advance the mental health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid rehab facilities, which are programs who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications given are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment programs in Starlight are programs which are legally permitted to distribute the medications used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT individuals must also get auxiliary services aside from medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.
