Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Facilities - Templeton, PA.

Vivitrol is a med used to prevent drug use and relapse, and is used expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended release version of the med Naltrexone, which is available via a monthly injection. It is not addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When someone takes Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be activated by opioids or alcohol, so when an individual drinks or tries to get high on opioids they essentially cannot get high or drunk.

There are certain precautions that should be be taken before someone begins treatment with Vivitrol. First off, someone who with the intent to begin Vivitrol needs to have been off of opioids for a minimum of 7-10 days. This includes people who are participating in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given drugs like Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin addict or someone who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly is brutal, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for at least a week if they want to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used as part of a rehab program in Templeton that also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk with your doctor or therapist in regards to how pharmacological tools can help you live the sober life you want.
