The armed forces currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard offers insurance benefits for retired military who are 60 years of age or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they go to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to non-military health care providers within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can select a primary doctor and get referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, military members can obtain drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Barrington. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other substance abuse recovery services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some restrictions. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but stays for detoxification are limited to 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved facility, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers are permitted to stay in rehab. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is usually accepted. Additionally, there are 60 group therapy sessions and 15 family therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which are done on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has completed other primary rehabilitation services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
