When someone has overcome substance abuse problem, it's not as simple as starting life again where you left off. Restoring a positive and happy life takes time and a lot of effort. A Halfway House, a.k.a. a Sober Living Facility, is a setting where recovering individuals can go where they can live in a drug and alcohol free and positive setting until they are able to live confidently on their own. Living in a Halfway House may be a requirement of a person's probation for example, or the person could make the decision to live in a Halfway House of their own accord following drug or alcohol rehab. Either way, tenants of a Halfway House are clean and striving to do what is necessary to get their lives back on track. This could mean finishing school, finding a job, etc.
Halfway Houses in Kinards are operated by individuals who in most cases were once residents of the house. The duration an individual is permitted to live at the Halfway House will differ, but it's usually anywhere from a month to a couple of years. Occupants must submit to drug and alcohol testing before entering the house, and this testing will continue randomly to ensure there is not any substance use in the house or substance abuse problems that would be more effectively dealt with in a drug or alcohol recovery program.
