Regular out-patient recovery is mostly a less costly alternative to more intensive outpatient centers or inpatient treatment, and is the least intense of formal alcohol or drug rehabilitation available in Chattanooga. Some clients are in rehab for their first time and have chosen regular outpatient because that is all they can afford and time commitment and logistically because of school, work or other obligations. For many, regular outpatient is a downgrade from treatment in a more intensive outpatient facility such as a partial hospitalization or inpatient facility.
Regular out-patient rehab services involve some kind of individual and group counseling services delivered once maybe twice per week. Facilities which offer a more diverse spectrum of services may include psychotherapies (behavioral therapy) to help with relapse prevention and dual diagnosis services to help respond to co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders. The length of time a person remains in treatment can change from client to client, and a client's progress can be judged from time to time and more rehab can be suggested based on these evaluations.
In many cases, a regular outpatient recovery program may be insufficient in intensity for a client who is addressing a severe drug and alcohol issue and has never experienced treatment before or has fallen off the wagon following previous outpatient rehabilitation.
