SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facilities - Canyon, TX.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to promote the mental health of the U.S.. One of its obligations is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications prescribed are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment programs in Canyon are programs that are officially permitted to distribute the drugs used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get ancillary services in addition to medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation center can receive initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every 3 years depending on the type of accreditation it has been given.
