Medicare is a federal health insurance program which helps pay for health benefits for people living in the Unites States who are either disabled or 65 and older. Medicare comes in different "Parts", with Parts A-D covering various kinds of treatment.
Part A (Insurance for Hospital Stays) - Medicare Part A pays for inpatient substance treatment, and up to 60 days in rehab without a co-pay but individuals will be required to pay a deductible. Medicare only covers a total of 190 days of inpatient care, as in during the person's lifetime.
Part B (Medical Insurance) ? Medicare Part B covers up to 80% of the fees for outpatient drug and alcohol rehab. Part C (Medicare-approved Private Insurance) Medicare Part D is an alternative for people who want additional health insurance apart from Medicare Parts A, B, and D. People who have Part C may have more insurance benefits available to them, but out-of-pocket costs and coverage is different and may be more expensive.
Part D (Prescription Insurance) Medicare Part D pays for substance abuse related medications. Including medications used for withdrawal symptoms during detoxification as well as medications required for maintenance therapy such as buprenorphine or methadone.
