The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid rehab programs, which are centers which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine prescribed are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab programs in Little River Academy are programs who are officially allowed to dispense the medications used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive ancillary services aside from medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation center can get their basic approval documentation while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation center is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every three years depending on the kind of certification that was given.
