Medicare is a federal health insurance program that helps pay for health benefits for individuals living in the U.S. who are either disabled or 65 years of age or older. For individuals who do have Medicare and require addiction recovery services in May, this program may cover certain rehab programs and recovery services. Medicare comes in different "Parts", with Parts A-D covering different forms of care.

Part C (Medicare-approved Private Insurance) Medicare Part D is an alternative for individuals who want supplemental health insurance apart from Medicare Parts A, B, and D. Individuals who have Part C can have more options available to them, but out-of-pocket costs and coverage is different and may be more expensive.

Part D (Prescription Insurance) Medicare Part D covers drug and alcohol addiction medications. Including medications used for withdrawal symptoms during detoxification and medications required for maintenance therapy such as buprenorphine or methadone.
