If an individual is getting outpatient detox they travel to the center assisting them with their detox daily or at minimum five days a week in most cases. Outpatient detoxification is either done in the evening or daytime, which makes it perfect for a person who must maintain a normal work or school routine. Some facilities may offer ways to receive detoxification treatment in a choice of normal outpatient or outpatient day treatment, to improve detox services and prevent relapse.
A standard amount of time people participate in outpatient detox is about seven days. A number of programs use medically assisted detox methods while others provide medication free detox treatement. At times when meds are needed to prevent deadly withdrawal problems, as is the case with alcohol and benzodiazepine medications where seizures are sometimes an issue. Otherwise, medical staff at the center help clients handle their physical, emotional and psychological symptoms of withdrawal and cravings until they are detoxified and balanced.
While outpatient detoxification in Pep is more adaptable for obvious reasons, a severe drawback is that clients are at a greater chance of relapse due to the access they maintain to drugs. Ideally, people will transition into a log-term or short-term recovery facility to deal with the causes of their addiction once outpatient or inpatient detox is complete.
