Alcohol and drug abuse facilities for Vets are essential for the mental well-being and overall stability of Veterans of all branches of the military. Because substance abuse and other mental health problems are found at higher than average rates among Vets, it is important that they get the essential help they need because of such high rates of suicide also associated with these disorders with our Vets.
Substance abuse programs for Veterans in Post are available through the VA, with services that include measures to address associated disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, pain, disturbed sleep, irritability, and/or relationship problems which most commonly trigger addiction disorders among Vets. Rehabilitation for addiction and related disorders among Military Veterans includes psychotherapies and group and individual therapy which can increase a person's desire to change. Involvement in other support such as AA and other support groups is encouraged. Medications are also available in some instances to help Military Vets decrease their drug, alcohol and tobacco use.
Alcohol and drug abuse programs for Military Veterans are offered during the evening and weekend hours, with both residential and outpatient programs available. Facilities that are Women-Only or Men-Only and those for homeless Vets are available in certain areas.
