The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are centers which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. A requirement that MAT clients must also get auxiliary services in addition to medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.
