Medicine given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. An opioid rehabilitation facility can get their initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation center is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of accreditation that was granted.
