Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment goal is to handle the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some clinics do deliver a limited amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
