DWI Clients - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - DHS, VA.

DWI clients in rehab need to complete specific requirements to satisfy the conditions of their court sentencing. Rehab facilities that help satisfy these demands and conditions, which are typically more lenient than traditional sentencing which would include large fines and incarceration, are available in DHS to provide DWI classes, therapy, and further assessment for severe drug or alcohol issues.

Drug and Alcohol Education is a fundamental treatment tool used at rehab programs treating DWI clients. There are different levels of alcohol education classes which can differ by state. Level I education classes normally consist of 12 hours of group education about the effects and dangers of drugs and/or alcohol. This is the what a person with a first offense or someone under 21 will usually be required to complete. Level II DWI classes would consist of both substance abuse education and group therapy in a court approved program. How long a client will be required to remain in therapy depends upon certain considerations, which can be, for example, the number of DWI's the individual has had, and the severity of the offense. Most often clients will be required to take the Level II classes and therapy except for when their blood-alcohol content was extremely low when they were arrested and there were no other serious charges when the person was arrested.
