Regular out-patient recovery is usually a less costly alternative to more intensive outpatient centers or inpatient treatment, and is the least intense of formal alcohol or drug treatment around in Pilot. Some clients are attending treatment for their first time and have picked regular outpatient because that is all they can afford and time commitment and logistically because of work, school or other obligations. For some, regular outpatient is a downgrade to service following treatment in a more intense outpatient facility such as a partial hospitalization or in-patient program.
Regular out-patient rehabilitation services have individual and group counseling services delivered once maybe twice per week. Programs which include a more diverse spectrum of services may include counseling (CBT) to assist with relapse prevention and dual diagnosis services to help address co-occurring substance abuse and mental health issues. The length of time a person remains involved in rehab can change from client to client, and a person's improvement can be assessed occasionally and more rehab can be recommended based on these conclusions.
In many situations, a regular outpatient treatment program may be lacking in intensity for a client who is dealing with a severe alcohol and drug problem and has not gone to treatment previously or has relapsed after prior outpatient recovery.
