Medicare is a federal program which helps pay for health benefits for people living in the U.S. who are either disabled or 65 years of age or older. For people that do have Medicare and need substance abuse treatment in Virginia Beach, Medicare may cover certain treatment programs and treatment services. Medicare consists of different "Parts", with Parts A-D covering various types of medical care.

Part A (Insurance for Hospital Stays) - Medicare Part A covers inpatient substance treatment, and up to 60 days in rehab without a co-pay but policy holders will have to pay a deductible. Medicare only covers a total of 190 days of inpatient care, as in during the individual's lifetime.

Part D (Prescription Insurance) Medicare Part D covers drug and alcohol addiction medications. Including medications associated with treating withdrawal symptoms during detoxification as well as those used for maintenance therapy such as buprenorphine or methadone.
