Substance abuse facilities for Veterans are essential for the mental well-being and overall stability of Veterans of all branches of the military. Because alcohol and drug abuse and other mental health problems are experienced at higher than average rates among Vets, it is important that they get the help they need due to such high rates of suicide also associated with these disorders with our Vets.
Alcohol and drug abuse programs for Vets in New Haven are available from the VA, with included services such as measures to handle associated disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, pain, disturbed sleep, irritability, and/or relationship problems which most commonly trigger substance abuse disorders among Veterans. Treatment for addiction and related problems among Veterans includes individual and group therapy and psychotherapies which can increase an individual's motivation to change. Involvement in outside support such as AA and other support groups is encouraged. Medications can also be available in some instances to help Veterans decrease their tobacco, alcohol, and drug use.
