Regular outpatient rehabilitation is usually a less costly alternative to more intensive outpatient options or inpatient rehab, and is the least intense of formal drug or alcohol rehab available in Peru. Some individuals are attending treatment for the first time and have chosen regular outpatient because of the cost and commitment to time wise and scheduling because of school, work or other obligations. For some, regular outpatient is a "step-down" from rehab in a more intensive outpatient center like a partial hospitalization or in-patient program.
Regular out-patient treatment services involve some kind of individual and group counseling services delivered once maybe twice per week. Programs which offer a wider array of services may include counseling (CBT) to assist with relapse prevention and dual-diagnosis services to help address co-occurring substance abuse and mental health issues. How long a client remains in treatment can vary, and a client's progress can be judged every now and then and an extension of treatment can be recommended based on these findings.
In many situations, a regular outpatient recovery facility is going to be lacking in intensity for an individual who is attempting to address a chronic drug and alcohol problem and has never gone to rehab previously or has relapsed after previous outpatient rehab.
