The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to advance the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid treatment programs, which are programs who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Drug given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment facilities in Silverlake are programs who are legally permitted to distribute the drugs used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive ancillary services aside from medication like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment center can get their initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation center is certified, it must be re-certified each year or every 3 years depending on the kind of accreditation that was granted.
