The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to advance the mental health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid rehab programs, which are centers who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Drug given are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab facilities in Skykomish are programs which are legally allowed to distribute the drugs used in MAT being they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get ancillary services in addition to medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehab center can receive initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehab facility is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every three years contingent upon the kind of accreditation that was given.
