The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its obligations is the supervision of opioid treatment programs, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent individuals.
