Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs - War, WV.

One of the out-patient rehab alternatives for clients in War who are battling with opioid dependence and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Some clinics and doctors are certified to dispense certain medications to opioid addicted people, many that are opioid-based themselves and are habit forming. In low doses however, the client doesn't experience high feelings but also does not experience severe cravings and isn't experiencing opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication used for this purpose, but there are a few more options to pick from.

Methadone is an opiate and can be taken at an out-patient clinic licensed to administer the drug, which is taken on a daily basis as a pill or liquid. The price of the drug is approximately one hundred and fifty dolloars a month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid-based drug, and is a pill often taken one day on, one day off. But unlike Methadone which is only be given in well-regulated clinics, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The cost monthly of buprenorphine is about $300.00 a month for the generic version of the medication. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, that is a med which reverses the effects of opiates. A person consuming this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to feel high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken every day, and is priced approximately $450 per month. Naltrexone is an additional med taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other drugs mentioned it's an opiate blocker and isn't an opiate. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly injection, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents an individual from feeling high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 a month.
