Treatment clients referred from the court for drug treatment are most commonly referred because they are being granted a chance to try their hand at treatment instead of jail time, other charges, fines, etc. Although this is most common with first time offenders, it can occur at any time such as while someone is already incarcerated. There are various types of rehab programs that offenders may be referred to, and this all depends on what is local to Lyman and the type of drug or alcohol the person requires treatment for.
There are recovery programs that work primarily with the criminal justice court system to administer to this specific group of clientele, and are typically state funded or are offered at little or no cost to the client. Additionally, there are also private substance abuse rehab centers that may be accepted by the court if there is a specific type of rehabilitation that the client needs or wants that a state-funded program can't provide. The client's legal representation can propose such options to the judge for permission. There are even substance abuse recovery programs that provide services from the correctional facilities themselves, in which case clients are sometimes in a better position for reduced sentences or other benefits when engaging in substance abuse rehabilitation services while serving their sentence for a drug offense or a DUI/DWI.
