Treatment clients referred from the court for substance abuse rehabilitation are typically referred because they are being given a chance to receive treatment in lieu of jail time, other charges, fines, etc. Although this is more prevalent with first time offenders, it can happen at any point including while someone is being held in jail. There are various types of rehab programs that criminal justice clients can be referred to, and this depends on what is local to Yellowstone National Park and the type of substance the person requires treatment for.
There are programs that work directly with the courts to administer to this specific group of clientele, and are typically publicly-funded or are offered at no cost or very little cost to the client. There are also private addiction rehab centers that might be authorized by the court if there is a specific type of treatment that the client requires or prefers that a different facility can't provide. The client's attorney can propose such options to the judge for approval. There are even addiction treatment centers that operate out of the correctional facilities themselves, where clients are typically in a better position for early release or other benefits when engaging in drug and alcohol rehab services while serving their sentence for a drug offense or a DUI/DWI.
