Different Types Of Rehabilitation in De Pere, WI.

As you can probably envision, not every addiction treatment center in De Pere is the same. In fact, each of the facilities you encounter will have its own unique idea as to what excellent treatment is all about.

Similarly, the protocols used at a center will mostly depend on the individual philosophy the center is founded upon. These categories, however, are not mutually exclusive. For instance, you may see religious-based alcohol and drug treatment programs that also use evidence-based philosophies.

In most situations, you may find that every substance abuse treatment facility will emphasize a single approach. This is how most of these facilities are classified. With that being said, the most common types of substance abuse treatment facilities include:

1. Evidence-Based Programs

Evidence-based or Proof-based alcohol and drug rehab facilities usually base their program on the science and research of addiction recovery. And because of this, they will extend care that is often focused on the mental and emotional in addition to adjunctive protocols that are research and scientifically based from proven results and case studies.

At these places, the treatment therapies applied often change regularly depending on the actual results from the latest findings in science and research.

2. Spirtually-Based Centers

Religious-based substance abuse treatment centers, however, put their attention on the spiritual facets of recovery. As a specific result, most of them lean on the twelve-step programs in combination with religious practice - such as meditation and prayers.

The underlying belief in most of these rehabs is that sobriety comes from the Lord. In the United States - a mostly Christian area - most faith-based programs are Christian. But, there are also drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs dedicated to providing healing and relief for recovering addicts from other religions and faiths.

In many instances, you will find that these type of recovery centers are paid for by religious entity - with the recovery programs run by the Salvation Army providing an excellent example. That being said, most faith-based rehabs also promote abstinence-based programs.

3. Twelve Step Based Programs

Most of these facilities base their recovery therapies and options on the twelve-step philosophies in addition to the literature provided by Alcoholics Anonymous and its various branches.

As a result, most of these facilities make you participate in meetings, group work, and finding a sponsor. During these activities, you will regularly work on the steps that will enable you to deal with your addiction from the twelve-step point of view.

Some of the programs in De Pere that are based on the twelve-steps of addiction recovery may also use other treatment modalities - such as individual therapy.

4. Medicine-Based Facilities

Pharmacotherapy-based centers look at substance use and addiction disorders as symptoms that should be handled in a medical setting - in much the same way you would handle other diseases like high blood pressure.

To this end, they will often prescribe the long term use of such meds as Suboxone and methadone for the management of addiction.

These kinds of substance abuse treatment facilities are, however, sometimes classified as harm-reducing because they might pass on your dependence from one drug to a different drug. For example, the Suboxone may replace opoids.

On the other hand, there are meds that a proven track record of deterring active drug abuse. For example, Antabuse will make an alcoholic ill whenever they take alcohol. Because of this, this type of treatment is productive at handling addiction and reducing harm.

5. Other Programs

Some drug and alcohol rehab facilities are unique and not suited to any of the methods described here so far. These rehabs offer therapies that are not founded on any evidence-based treatment methods or protocols.

Alternatively, these programs report that their way of handling addiction issues is unique to them. However, they are problematic in the sense that they will probably not be able to provide you with proof of success or be able to provide evidence about their theories.

6. Harm-Reduction Based Facilities

These are substance abuse treatment centers that hold the belief that people suffering from addiction and a variety of substance use disorders are not completely capable of abstinence or that they do not want to stop using drugs and alcohol entirely.

These substance abuse treatment facilities, instead, work on the belief that addicts can use less of the substance in question. From this perspective, they argue that it is okay to take a glass of wine or so during lunch or dinner and will teach the patients how to do this with success. In the process, you may learn how to control your substance abuse problem while still allowing for some substance use.

Many harm-reduction alcohol and drug rehab facilities are found apart from the reaches of traditional drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs. One good example would be a needle exchange plan.

The theory behind these plans is that not every addict is prepared for or wants help. Hence, they are intended for attempting to stop the spread of life-threatening diseases such as hepatitis and HIV by providing IV drug users with clean needles free of charge. In doing so, these programs reduce the risk of disease transmittal which arises from drug abuse, even though addicts continue using as they did prior to the intervention.
